Love the brutality of the wrecks? Are you attracted by the depth and mystery of the grottoes? All this, as well as a colorful variety of soft corals, awaits you in this direction.
The sunken ferry King Cruiser is located on the high seas about 30 km. east of Phuket Island. The passenger ferry ran between Phuket and the Phi Phi islands. Sank on May 4, 1997. The ferry is 85 meters long and 25 meters wide. The depth on the upper deck is 18-21 meters, on the bottom 30-33 meters. The diving conditions are not easy due to the presence of the current. Visibility 10-15 m. In 20 years the ferry has turned into a large reef covered with a variety of soft corals that attract many fish. Flocks of barracuda, tuna, Yellow Fusiller are circling here. The ferry has become home to nurse sharks, giant groupers and flocks of lionfish.
Not far from King Cruiser is the Shark Point dive site. It is a series of pinnacle reefs located from north to south. The first one rises about 2 meters above the water surface. There is a lighthouse at the top of the cliff. The rest of the pinnacles are under water.
The depth of the site reaches 20-25 meters. The currents are often strong enough. Visibility 10-20m. The reef is covered with many colorful soft corals, making it one of the most beautiful sites in Phuket. Here you can find cuttlefish, octopuses, seahorses, turtles. The luckiest ones may come across a leopard shark or even a whale shark.
On the way back to Phuket we will be met by a rock covered with greenery and towering 30 m above the water. This is the island of Koh Dok Mai, which means «Flower» in Thai. Going under the water, we soar along the sheer wall, which goes to a depth of 25 m. The currents are mostly strong. Using the technique of diving in currents, we will inspect almost the entire island wall. Visibility 10-20 m.
The western side of the island is flatter and shallower. The eastern side is more steep. Here we will find the business card of this site — two shallow grottoes.
At the bottom under the corals you can find nurse sharks. A variety of shrimps and nudibranchs lurk among the colorful soft corals on the wall. A turtle can be found closer to the surface.
Given the depth and presence of currents, this direction is suitable for advanced divers. We recommend that you have a flashlight with you, you will need it when diving on a sunken object and inspecting the grottoes.
